This thriving waterfront community in California has become home to more and more full-time residents over the years. Many of these residents are boaters, fishermen and golfers who purchased Discovery Bay real estate to fulfill the town's slogan: "Live where you play."
If you are looking to purchase Discovery Bay real estate, Donna has been selling real estate for over 20 years in Discovery Bay. Not only does she bring experience and competence to the table, but clients always say how much they appreciate Donna's accessibility and her straight forward, down to earth style. If finding the perfect home in Discovery Bay is your goal, Donna will be happy to provide you with information, not only about Discovery Bay real estate, but about the the amazing 1,000 miles of navigable waterways known as the California Delta that Discovery Bay is nestled upon.
Discovery Bay is located about an hour east of San Francisco. It is a fun community of around 5,000 homes built on a series of man-made coves. The waters that flow there supply the drinking water of about 23 million Californians. All the rivers, canals, sloughs and coves add up to more than 1,000 miles of navigable Delta waters- perfect for water skiing, fishing, swimming, cruising or simply poking around.
Most residents shelter their boats behind their home at a floating dock, a necessity in this part of the Delta. The entire Discovery Bay system of coves is tidal and is occasionally subject to abnormally high water due to heavy spring snow melt. The floating docks handle the daily permutations with ease.
From Discovery Bay a typical cruising boat can be in San Francisco Bay in five to six hours or in Sacramento in about the same amount of time. Along the way, cruisers will pass waterside bars and restaurants such as the Sugar Barge, which overlooks Frank’s Tract, a popular gathering place in the summer, as well as empty stretches of farmland hidden from view behind the levees. It’s not unusual to pass oceangoing commercial ships making their way down the channel from Sacramento, though the sight from land of a freighter seemingly moving effortlessly through what looks like an unbroken field of corn can be somewhat jarring.
David Piepho, board president of Discovery Bay, says much of the town’s appeal is the freedom of having access to the Delta waterways.
“You can go anywhere in the world from your own backyard,” says Piepho. “You can follow the Delta into San Francisco Bay and out into the Pacific.” –Boat/US Magazine, July, 2007 by Michael Vatalaro
And some people have done just that. His neighbor would leave from his backyard dock in his cruising sailboat for several months in order to cruise to Hawaii and back again.
